Alabama Football: What does OC Steve Sarkisian Leaving Mean for Bama?

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:49 p.m. ET

It’s official – Alabama Football Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian is leaving Bama to be the Offensive Coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons.

Alabama Football Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian is leaving Bama to be the Offensive Coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. In a rare show of restraint, Danny Kanell has not yet tweeted out that “The Dynasty is Dead!” and Colin Cowherd has only said it a dozen times into his hairbrush to practice up for his next terrible show.

What does this mean for Alabama Football?

Well the good news is that national signing day has come and gone and Nick Saban has already wrapped up his 7th consecutive #1 recruiting class at Alabama so there won’t be any issue with recruits flipping like water bottles in a teenager’s snap chat video.

Who will replace Steve Sarkisian as Offensive Coordinator?

If you’ve been reading Bama Hammer you know I’ve already called this one – but it came a little earlier than I expected. Mike Locksley will be the new Offensive Coordinator for Alabama Football. Locksley was recently promoted to the same Offensive Analyst position Sarkisian held prior to being named Offensive Coordinator.

The only difference being that Mike Locksley was not given an official assignment. The only official word from the University or Nick Saban was that Mike Locksley would be promoted to an on field Analyst position. That position will be Offensive Coordinator.

I’m willing to bet the same Coach cunning enough to hire ex-FSU QB Clint Trickett before a season opener against FSU saw this one coming. Nick Saban is playing chess while everyone else in college football is playing checkers.

We’ll have more on the story as it develops keep up on Facebook and Twitter!

Also I’m going to go ahead and get in before anyone else with the inevitable “Alabama had a 4th quarter lead and so did the Falcons Steve Sarkisian should fit right into Atlanta.” joke.
