Incredibly, Alabama starting WR Mullaney unaware Tennessee is a Tide rival

Please forgive Mullaney for his ignorance, he was raised in California.

Alabame wide receiver Richard Mullaney, a graduate transfer from Oregon State, is apparently still learning to play for the Crimson Tide and competing in the SEC. The Tide’s newest slot receiver has some catching up to do in terms of learning the history of the school for which he currently plays.

Mullaney of course knows Auburn is the Alabama’s chief rival, but was he aware of the rivalry with Tennessee?

"No, I was not," Mullaney said. "They kind of just told me this week how big it was, so I’m excited for it."

Considering Alabama has won the last eight meetings between the two schools, calling the series a rivalry is open to debate. Of course Tennessee won 10 of the previous 11 before the Tide’s current streak began.

Alabama holds the advantage in the series with a record of 51-38-7.

If Tennessee can shock Alabama at home Saturday, it will be hard for Mullaney to dismiss the rivalry ever again.
