After late TD, Montana beats Cal Poly in OT, 21-14

Jordan Johnson connected with Ellis Henderson on a 23-yard

scoring pass in overtime and Brock Coyle followed with a goal line

interception to give Montana a 21-14 win over Cal Poly on


The Grizzlies (6-1, 3-1 Big Sky Conference) marched 88 yards in

15 plays and tied the game on a 2-yard scoring pass from Johnson to

Clay Pierson with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Coyle sealed the victory for Montana with a leaping interception

of a Dano Graves pass.

Montana’s last-gasp scoring drive was set up when Jordan Tripp

blocked a 26-yard field goal attempt by Mustangs kicker Bobby Zalud

with 2:17 left in the game.

Akaninyene Umoh rushed for first half touchdowns of 6 and 4

yards to give Cal Poly (3-4, 2-1) a 14-7 lead.

The Cal Poly defense kept Montana out of the end zone for most

of the game. Before their final scoring drive, the Grizzlies moved

the ball deep into Cal Poly territory three times in the second

half only to turn the ball over — twice on downs and once on a

Johnson fumble at the Mustang 1-yard line that went for a


Cal Poly running back Kristaan Ivory led all rushers in the game

with 121 yards on 22 carries.
