They’re back: College football’s best — and worst — uniforms
Sunny days are here again!
College football is in full bloom, and so are those beloved, goofy, terrific, gaudy — and hideous — uniforms and helmets. We all know about Maryland’s various uses of the state flag and the countless glow-in-the-dark combinations of Oregon. But other schools are getting into the act, like Arizona State and this two-sided helmet which, no matter which way you look, does its best to blind you like the sun. But they are far from alone, so click on through and enjoy.

Orange you glad?
For the first time since 1989, Florida broke out all-orange uniforms vs. East Carolina. Above, kicker Austin Hardin sports the look while attempting a field goal.

Bow down to the masters
It's Oregon. What else is there to say? In fact, the only thing ugly about the Ducks' season opener was this scene, when quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. (3) was knocked out of the game following a hit by Eastern Washington linebacker John Kreifels — a hit which earned Kreifels an ejection.

When it comes to uniforms, there are two truths in college football: 1) Oregon will find a new glow-in-the-dark combo in hopes of literally blinding the opponent, and Maryland will make sure you never forget the state flag. You have to give the Terps credit in their Week 1 win over Richmond — they had that flag covered from every direction on their helmets (so much so, it took three photos to show everything).

Sweet, simple ... scary
Arachnophobes, beware. Richmond doesn't care if you're afraid of the creepy, crawly eight-legged insects. The school mascot is the Spiders, and the football team is wearing all eight legs with pride

The Devils wear Riddell
Too bad Arizona State didn't play as well as it dressed in Week 1. The 15th-ranked Sun Devils were humbled by Texas A&M 38-17, but their uniforms — especially Satan's fork on the helmet — certainly earned the gold.

Shout out to history
The San Diego State Aztecs have a variety of ensembles planned for this season (like this Week 1 black-and-red get-up worn by running back Donnel Pumphrey in Week 1's 37-3 win over the University of San Diego), but they will all center around the Aztec calendar which is emblazoned on the San Diego State helmets (inset).

When you think of the intimidating teams of the SEC, Vanderbilt isn’t exactly the first team that comes to mind. But sporting the all-black uniforms in its season opener against Western Kentucky (and those chrome helmets), the Commodores can’t be faulted for their effort. Of course, they lost at home to the Hilltoppers 14-12.

Breaking with tradition
It didn’t take long for Jim Harbaugh to make his mark on the Michigan Wolverines. In fact, you could see a change before the first official snap of his tenure as head coach of his alma mater. Those maize and blue winged helmets? Yeah, we’ve all seen those plenty of times. But white on white? Now that’s new, and so un-Harbaugh like … subtle.

Oregon State’s helmets featured a twist on the school’s normal Beavers logo for Friday’s season opener vs. Weber State, as orange was swapped out for an American flag theme. OSU rolled past the Wildcats 26-7 in Corvallis.
Pick a side
Louisville’s second-half comeback against No. 6 Auburn fell short in Week 1, but the Cardinals’ look was nothing less than spectacular — especially these helmets.
Combat Duck! Combat Duck! ... Yes, we're cheering for the new logo that graced Oregon's 'Galaxy White' helmets for the Week 2 Michigan State game. Where has Combat Duck been all our lives? Combat Duck is so fresh! We love Combat Duck!
