The Sidelines: Chris Mack talks about Xavier’s rollercoaster season
On this week’s episode of “The Sidelines Podcast,” FS1 college basketball insider Evan Daniels welcomes in Xavier coach Chris Mack.
Mack has a candid conversation with Evan, ranging from his humble beginnings straight through this year’s rollercoaster campaign. The two discuss the following:
- How Mack got started in the coaching profession, and how injuries led to the first stop of his career — as a JV high school girls coach. What did he learn there, which has helped him throughout his career?
- How the late, great Skip Prosser helped him land his first college job at Xavier. What made Prosser a coach that is revered to this day, even 10 years after his death? Also, what did Mack learn while serving as an assistant with current Arizona coach Sean Miller, when Miller was the head man at Xavier?
- Finally, a discussion about Mack’s time as a head coach – including this season, where an injury to Edmond Sumner, and Myles Davis’ departure from the team has greatly changed the outlook.
Evan is also joined by Scout.com’s Brian Snow to discuss the evolution of Xavier’s program under Mack and to break down some of the top storylines in recruiting. Where will big names like Mohamed Bamba, Trevon Duval and Trae Young end up, with Young’s commitment coming Thursday afternoon?
Previous guests on “The Sidelines” podcast include Duke Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski, Villanova’s Jay Wright and Kansas’ Bill Self.
