Wofford 69, Virginia-Wise 66

Kevin Giltner scored 17 points and Brad Loesing and Aerris Smith

scored 14 each as Wofford overcame Virginia-Wise, an NAIA opponent,

69-66 Saturday night.

The Terriers (6-4) overcame a 27-point performance by the

Cavaliers’ Travis Berry, including 17 in the second half and 5 of 9

on 3-pointers.

Giltner gave Wofford a 65-60 lead by making two free throws with

45 seconds left, but Berry’s 3-pointer 7 seconds later cut the lead

to 65-63.

Loesing’s two free throws with 21 seconds left made it 67-63,

but Berry got fouled while making a layup at the 14-second mark,

and his free throw made it 67-66.

Giltner was fouled with 11 seconds to go and made both to give

Wofford its final margin. Darius Smith missed a layup try with 4

seconds left for Virginia-Wise (3-6), which was playing the game as

an exhibition.
