Wilson's late 3 helps NJIT to 81-78 OT win over Colgate

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Diandre Wilson nailed a 3-pointer in overtime to put NJIT ahead for good and give the Highlanders an 81-78 victory over Colgate on Tuesday night.

Wilson hit the trey with 1:32 remaining in the extra period to give the Highlanders a 78-76 lead. He added four free throws in the final seconds to secure the season-opening victory.

NJIT which had a 36-30 lead at the break, remained ahead throughout the second half until Jordan Burns nailed a 3-pointer to tie the game at 70 with 55 seconds left in regulation. Colgate missed two straight layups off of consecutive offensive rebounds in the final seconds of the second half.

Reilly Walsh led NJIT with 21 points, hitting 5 of 6 from beyond the arc. Zach Cooks scored 19, San Antonio Brinson had 14 and Shyquan Gibbs 10.

Will Rayman had 17 points and Rapolas Ivanauskas added 17 while pulling down 13 rebounds for Colgate.
