Gregg Marshall is ‘hopeful’ to have Fred VanVleet for game vs. Saint Louis
Wichita State lost all three games this weekend in the AdvoCare Invitational, all three contest played without the services of senior point guard Fred VanVleet.
VanVleet sat out the week due to a hamstring injury, and head coach Gregg Marshall is hopeful his senior floor general will be back in action for the Shockers on Saturday against Saint Louis.
Wichita State needs VanVleet on the floor. The Shockers are now 2-4 on the season, dropping games to USC, Alabama and Iowa in consecutive games this weekend. Of course, the selection committee will factor in VanVleet's injury, but the Shockers have little room for error moving forward. Wichita State still has non-conference games against UNLV, Utah and Seton Hall left on the schedule, but that's not much. The Shockers will then move into league play in a much-improved Missouri Valley Conference.
VanVleet is averaging 5.5, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in limited action this season.
Marshall said he’s hopeful that Fred VanVleet will return for next game against Saint Louis, but not sure. Hamstring injury tough to predict
