VMI 103, The Citadel 100

Stan Okoye led six players in double figures with 19 points as

Virginia Military defeated The Citadel 103-100 in the first round

of the inaugural All-Military Classic Friday night.

The Citadel used an 11-2 run in the final two minutes to cut

VMI’s lead to two, 102-100, on a 3-pointer by Marshall Harris with

14.8 seconds remaining. After the Keydets’ Keith Gabriel hit a free

throw with 12 seconds remaining, the Bulldogs were unable to

connect as time ran out.

The NCAA’s top-scoring team the past five seasons, VMI (1-0) got

17 points apiece from Gabriel and Rodney Glasgow, 15 from freshman

Jordan Weethee.

Mike Groselle led the Bulldogs (0-1) with game highs of 25

points and 11 rebounds.

VMI raced to a 32-17 lead in the first half, but The Citadel

used a 12-0 run to cut the lead to 32-29. The Keydets led 52-46 at

the break.
