VCU beats Fordham 76-51 in A-10 opener

NEW YORK (AP) — Marcus Evans scored 17 points with three steals, Marcus Santos-Silva added 13 points, and VCU never trailed in beating Fordham 76-51 in Saturday's Atlantic 10 Conference opener.

VCU (10-4) shot 67 percent and held Fordham to 33-percent shooting to win its third straight. It's the seventh time this season VCU has held an opponent to fewer than 60 points.

Sean Mobley added 12 points and had three steals for VCU.

Isaac Vann and Vince Williams hit consecutive 3-pointers for a 12-5 lead and VCU led 35-16 at halftime on 62-percent shooting behind nine points each from Santos-Silva and Evans.

VCU opened the second half on a 19-9 run capped by P.J. Byrd's layup and led by 30 on KeShawn Curry's layup with 8:28 to go.

Jalen Cobb led Fordham (9-5) with 14 points. The Rams were held to 32.7 percent shooting.
