Wednesday night.

Cooper’s jumper with 45 seconds remaining gave the Miners

(14-13, 7-6 Conference USA) a 71-68 lead, and after Darnell Dodson

missed two free throws at the other end, Southern Miss (22-6, 9-4)

was forced to foul. UTEP made five free throws in the last 34

seconds.

Miners.

Dodson had 16 points, and Jonathan Mills added 13 points and 10

rebounds for the Eagles, who lost their second straight and dropped

out of a tie for the C-USA lead with Memphis’ victory against East

Carolina on Wednesday.

Cooper’s jumper with 10 seconds remaining in regulation tied the

score at 56-all. Neil Watson of Southern Miss could not hit from

close range with a second left, resulting in an extra period.
