Last season: 22-14, lost in NCAA Tournament regional semifinals.
Coach: Steve Alford.
Key returners: C Tony Parker is the team’s lone senior and he’ll try to build on the slow and steady progress he’s made since struggling early in his career. There’s added depth at point guard behind Bryce Alford, the coach’s son, and returning starter Isaac Hamilton. Newcomers Aaron Holiday and Prince Ali could both crack the starting lineup.
Who left: Leading scorer Norman Powell graduated and top rebounder Kevon Looney left after one season to become a first-round pick in the NBA draft. They combined to average 28 points and 13.9 rebounds.
The Skinny: The Bruins will try to blend three returning starters with some talented freshmen newcomers in an effort to advance beyond consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament regional semifinals during coach Steve Alford’s first two seasons. Jonah Bolden, the well-regarded Australian guard/forward who redshirted last season after being ruled ineligible, finally makes his UCLA debut.
