UC Santa Barbara 79, Pacific 67
Orlando Johnson scored 32 points to lead fifth-seeded UC Santa
Barbara to a 79-67 victory over fourth-seeded Pacific in the
quarterfinals of the Big West tournament Thursday.
James Nunnally added 19 points for the Gauchos (16-13), who
avenged a regular-season sweep by the fourth-seeded Tigers (16-15).
Allen Huddleston led Pacific with 21 points.
The defending tournament champion Gauchos (16-13) advanced to
Friday’s semifinals for the fourth consecutive year.
Johnson scored 22 points in the second half. He gave UC Santa
Barbara its biggest lead at 71-49 with a steal and a dunk.
Pacific entered the game ranked second in the Big West in
scoring defense but allowed UC Santa Barbara to shoot 57.1
The Tigers pulled within 45-36 on a layup by Terrell Smith with
14:20 left in the second half to cap a 9-2 run but couldn’t rally
