UC Irvine wins 80-75, its first at Saint Mary's since 2002

MORAGA, Calif. (AP) — Evan Leonard scored 22 points and UC Irvine beat Saint Mary's 80-75 on Wednesday night.

UC Irvine (7-1) won at Saint Mary's for the first time since 2002, and snapped a four-game losing skid against the Gaels. The Anteaters also rebounded from a 67-60 loss against Toledo in the Gulf Coast Showcase title game in Florida.

Leonard was 7 of 11 from the field and made four of UCI's seven 3-pointers. Max Hazzard added 14 points for the Anteaters. Collin Welp had 12 points, and John Edgar Jr. and Robert Cartwright chipped in with 11 apiece.

Jordan Ford scored 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting and made nine free throws to lead Saint Mary's (3-4), which has lost four straight.

The game was tied at 69 with 2:21 to play. Welp made a layup and two free throws during a 7-4 spurt and the Anteaters led 76-73 with 21 seconds remaining. Ford missed a layup with six seconds left and UCI made its last four free throws.
