Thomas late 3 gives Georgia St. 79-75 win over Arkansas St. (Jan 06, 2018)

ATLANTA (AP) Jeff Thomas nailed a 3-pointer in the final seconds as Georgia State took a late lead and held on for a 79-75 win over Arkansas State to even its Sun Belt Conference record on Saturday afternoon.

The teams swapped the lead throughout the game until Thomas hit the trey with 32 seconds remaining to go ahead 75-72. Devin Mitchell made two free throws to extend the lead to 77-72.

Arkansas State's Ty Cockfield banked in a 3 with 11 seconds left to close to 77-75. Isaiah Williams responded with two free throws to secure the second straight conference win for Georgia State (11-6, 2-2).

D'Marcus Simonds led the Panthers with 33 points, making 4 of 7 from distance to finish 12 of 20 from the floor. He also grabbed nine rebounds. Williams added 12 points and Devin Mitchell chipped in 11. Thomas scored 10.

Deven Simms had 24 points and Cockfield added 14 for Arkansas State (6-11, 1-3), which has dropped three straight games.
