Stith with 21 points as Old Dominion gets past VCU 62-52

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — B.J. Stith scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Old Dominion past VCU 62-52 on Wednesday night.

Stith was just 5 of 19 from the field but made all eight of his free throws for the Monarchs (4-3). Ahmad Caver added 13 points with five rebounds and four assists and Xavier Green had nine points and six rebounds.

VCU jumped to a 15-4 start and stretched the lead to 32-15 with 2:37 to play in the half before a Stith 3-pointer and a Jason Wade layup cut it to 32-20 at the break.

Green opened the second half with a 3 and a jumper back-to-back to ignite a 14-7 surge that cut VCU's lead to 41-34 with 13:39 to go. Stith drained two consecutive 3-pointers to put Old Dominion on top 47-46 with 8:40 left and the Monarchs never trailed after that.

Marcus Evans scored 14 points to lead the Rams (5-2).
