San Jose St. 67, E. Washington 60

Adrian Oliver scored 14 of his 34 points in the final 6:25,

carrying San Jose State to a 67-60 victory over Eastern Washington

on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

The 6-foot-4 Oliver, the nation’s second-leading returning

scorer from a year ago at 22.5 points per game, hit the 30-point

mark for the 11th time in his career. His 3-pointer with 5:25 left

in the game capped a 10-0 run for the Spartans, who held the Eagles

without a field goal for a nearly six-minute span to open a 58-50

lead. Eastern Washington never got closer than five the rest of the

way.

Wil Carter had nine points and 11 rebounds for San Jose

State.

Tremayne Johnson scored 21 points and Jeffrey Forbes added 15

for the Eagles, who played without starting point guard Glen Dean

as well as his backup, Cliff Colimon, both sidelined by foot

injuries.
