San Diego hangs on for 75-71 win over Loyola Marymount (Jan 13, 2018)

SAN DIEGO (AP) Juwan Gray scored a career-high 17 points with 8-for-11 shooting and San Diego hung on Saturday night for a 75-71 win over Loyola Marymount.

Isaiah Wright added 16 points and Isaiah Pineiro had 15 for San Diego, which shot 56 percent from the field to snap a two-game skid.

San Diego (13-5, 4-2 West Coast Conference) never trailed but Loyola Marymount nearly erased a 17-point first half deficit and stayed close throughout the second period.

Mikail Simmons drained a 3-pointer for the Lions with just under two minutes to play, cutting the deficit to 68-66, before San Diego responded with a 3 from Olin Carter III to stretch the advantage back to five with 52 seconds left. The Toreros got a layup and a free throw from Wright to pad it even more before the Lions made a final push, getting another deep 3 from Simmons to trail 74-71.

Wright hit a free throw to extend the lead back to four and James Batemon missed a 3 at the buzzer.

Batemon finished with a career-high 30 points and Eli Scott added 15 for the Lions (6-11, 1-5).
