San Diego gets first win beating Nicholls St. 81-72

SAN DIEGO (AP) Olin Carter III had 21 points, five rebounds and four assists and Brett Bailey scored 19 points and collected four boards to lead San Diego past Nicholls State 81-72 in the San Diego Classic on Sunday.

San Diego (1-3) led 36-35 at the half, and DeAndre Harris later made a 3 for Nicholls State to tie it at 51. But Carter made a layup and Bailey hit a 3 and the Toreros never trailed again.

Lafayette Rutledge made a 3 to bring Nicholls State (2-2) to within 61-59 before the Toreros used a 9-0 run to put the game away.

Juwan Gray contributed 14 points for San Diego and Cameron Neubauer chipped in 13 points. For Nicholls State, Jahvaughn Powell led the way with 17 points, and Harris and Jonathan Bell each had 16 points while Bell had 10 boards.

The game was the first ever between the two teams.
