Wichita State is scrambling to come up with the money to retain Gregg Marshall, but their efforts might not be enough to keep the coveted head coach.

Yahoo! Sports’ Pat Forde reports that Marshall has a trip planned to visit Alabama with his family Friday, a sure sign that he is highly interested in their head coaching vacancy. Forde also says the Crimson Tide could pay him nearly $4 million per season, which is significantly more than the $3 million amount that was initially reported.

Marshall currently earns $1.75 million per season, which the Shockers are hoping to raise to around $3 million in order to present a somewhat competitive offer to keep him.

Marshall met with Alabama AD Bill Battle on Monday, the same day the coach’s radio show was canceled.

If Bama is unable to land Marshall, they reportedly would target Minnesota’s Richard Pitino.
