Report: Ex-Kentucky coach Gillispie enters rehab

Former Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie has checked into a rehab facility, according to WKYT in Houston.

Gillispie, who was arrested for on a DUI charge late last month, has entered former NBA player/coach John Lucas’ After Care Rehab Facility in Houston, according to the report.

Lucas has battled substance abuse issues in his life.

An attorney for former Gillispie would only say that Gillispie was considering entering a rehab program following his arrest last month, but could not confirm the report by WKYT-TV.

Gillispie was arrested on Aug. 27 following an early-morning traffic stop in Anderson County, about 30 minutes west of Lexington. He has pleaded not guilty. Patrick said a court date is still scheduled for Sept. 23 but that Gillispie will not be required to appear.

Gillispie, 49, who is from Texas, had success at both UTEP and Texas A&M before being hired at Kentucky. However, after two mediocre seasons and also numerous off-court issues, he was fired after last season with a 40-27 record.
