Poydras helps Utah Valley romp past Texas-Rio Grande, 88-68 (Feb 25, 2017)

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) Jordan Poydras scored 17 points and Utah Valley shot its way past Texas-Rio Grande Valley 88-68 in a Western Athletic Conference battle Saturday night.

The victory gives the Wolverines a first-ever road sweep of New Mexico State and Rio Grande (10-20, 2-11).

Utah Valley (13-15, 5-8) took control of the game with a 21-4 run in the first half to take a 23-8 advantage. By halftime the Wolverines led 47-29.

Zach Nelson added 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Utah Valley. Ivory Young added 13 points off the bench and Kenneth Ogbe contributed 11 points. Utah Valley shot a crisp 54.7 percent from the field (29 of 53), including 8 of 18 from long range.

Antonio Green scored 19 points off the Rio Grande bench and Moe McDonald added another 18 points.

Utah Valley wraps up its regular season at home Saturday against Seattle University in a battle to determine fifth place in conference.
