Key returners: Gary Payton II, last season’s Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, returns for his senior season after averaging 13.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 3.1 steals and 1.2 blocked shots.
Who left: Oregon State returns all five starters, and seven of its top eight scorers, so it didn’t lose much of note. But the team has added six promising freshmen including Tres Tinkle, the coach’s son, Stephen Thompson Jr. and Derrick Bruce.
The Skinny: The Beavers were the surprise of the Pac-12 last season, with a 14-game winning streak at home after having to hold open tryouts to fill the roster. But to make any noise this season they’ll have to improve their shooting after averaging just 60.9 points per game last season, last in the league.
