THIBODAUX, La. (AP) Tevon Saddler and Roddy Peters scored 15 points apiece, and Nicholls held on to beat Sam Houston State 73-72 on Wednesday night for its fourth straight win.

Nicholls (17-9, 11-2 Southland Conference) leads the conference by a half-game over Southeastern Louisiana (11-3), which beat New Orleans. Sam Houston State (16-11, 10-4), along with New Orleans (10-4), drops a half-game back of third-place Stephen F. Austin (10-3).

Sam Houston State's Marcus Harris tied the game 71-71 on a jump shot with 1:47 remaining. Jahvaughn Powell answered with a jumper and Nicholls lead 73-71. John Dewey III split a pair of free throws to pull the Bearkats within one with eight seconds left. Powell then missed a free throw on the next possession, but Harris missed a layup at the buzzer to end it.
