Morgan State’s DeWayne Jackson sank seven 3-pointers en route to

31 points to rally the Bears to an 81-79 victory over Loyola

Marymount in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

The Bears erased a 15-point second-half deficit behind a torrid

night from Jackson, who was 7 of 11 from the 3-point line and 10 of

18 overall.

Loyola Marymount led 58-43 with just under 14 minutes to play,

but Morgan State went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 72-68 with

6:43 to play. The teams traded baskets before Jackson hit his sixth

3 to make it 76-73 and, with 2:48 left, hit another deep shot to

pull his team to within 79-78.

A floater from Brooks 50 second later gave the Bears the lead

and Loyola Marymount turned the ball over twice before failing to

get a shot off.

Kevin Thompson added 17 points and 11 rebounds for Morgan State.

Drew Viney led the Lions with 27 points, while Vernon Teel added 15

points and nine rebounds.
