After receiving an offer from Tom Izzo last Sunday, could three-star shooting guard Greg Elliott join Michigan State recruiting’s 2017 class?

Recruiting hadn’t exactly been the strongest area of Tom Izzo’s coaching tenure in East Lansing, but the Hall of Famer is getting better talent as the years go on. In fact, his 2016 recruiting class was arguably the best haul in his career and it’s only looking up in future years.

Despite the fact that he can get some of the nation’s top talent such as Gary Harris, Branden Dawson, Adreian Payne, Miles Bridges and Josh Langford, to name a few, he can also spot some of the diamonds in the rough.

Probably the most famous underdog that he unearthed was three-star forward Draymond Green followed by low-rated four-star Denzel Valentine. Next up on the list could be three-star shooting guard Greg Elliott from Detroit.

Izzo went to check out Elliott’s game last week and a couple days later, the three-star shooting guard took an unofficial visit to East Lansing for the Michigan game. His performance vs. Detroit Edison was impressive enough to earn him an offer on his visit.

Check out some of the highlights from his 42-point showing last Friday:

There has been a lot of chatter around the Michigan State fan base about the desire to add this kid to the 2017 class, especially since there should be room for him and Brian Bowen. Heck, Brandon McCoy is still a possibility if Elliott commits.

Elliott is a slashing shooting guard with the ability to both create his own shot and find open teammates. He is an excellent passer, shooting and all-around athlete who fits the Spartan mold. He’s currently ranked the No. 293 overall player in the class by 247Sports, but is severely underrated.

After receiving an MSU offer, there’s an overwhelming feeling that he will become a Spartan.
