Michigan State Recruiting: 4-star 2019 SF Romeo Weems must be a priority

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 3:18 p.m. ET

Michigan State recruiting recently offered four-star 2019 small forward Romeo Weems and he must be made a priority.

One of the elite recruits of the 2019 class, Romeo Weems, had yet to receive a major college offer before last week’s visit to Michigan State. That all changed as the Spartans have entered into the running for him and he has to be a guy who’s considered a five-star prospect in a year, or so.

The four-star from New Haven has been on Tom Izzo’s radar for some time and the head coach finally made the move to extend him a scholarship offer.

Right after his unofficial visit to Michigan State, Weems received an offer that he may just have been waiting for. The staff needs to make sure he’s a priority from this point on.

The Spartans were the first school to offer the four-star 2019 forward out of New Haven (Mich.) and his recruitment is sure to pick up. In fact, Ohio State’s Thad Matta stopped by to see him last week and extended an offer as well.

It’s easy to see why coaches are so high on this kid. Not only is he a smart player, but he’s athletic with a 6-foot-6, 211-pound frame.

Watching him play, he commands respect from opponents and often draws the attention of an entire defense. He can stuff the stat sheet and is an all-around athlete with solid handles, elite athleticism, ability to create his own shot and a decent jumper.

Weems should be the Spartans’ top priority in 2019, especially if Tyger Campbell doesn’t reclassify to 2018. He’s ranked the No. 23 recruit in the nation as well as the ninth-best small forward, according to 247Sports. This offer was long overdue.
