Miami (Ohio) 60, Towson 57

Allen Roberts scored a career-high 20 points and Julian Mavunga

registered a double-double as Miami (Ohio) beat Towson 60-57 Friday

night in the season opener for both teams.

Mavunga had 14 points, including 7 of 9 free throw attempts, and

had 14 rebounds. Twelve of Mavunga’s points came in the second

half.

The win avenged an 82-71 loss to Towson in last season’s opening

game.

Miami built a seven-point lead in the first half but neither

team led by more than four points in the second half. The game was

tied eight times, including 51-51 with 4:18 remaining. Two free

throws by Mavunga with 3:50 to play put the RedHawks up for good at

53-51 and started a 5-0 run. Towson had a chance to tie the game

but a 3-pointer by Troy Franklin with 11 seconds to go was off the

mark.

Isaiah Philmore led Towson with 12 points and Braxton Dupree

added 11.
