BALTIMORE (AP) Tavaras Hardy has been hired as the new men's basketball coach at Loyola University Maryland.

The 38-year-old Hardy has served on coaching staffs in the Big Ten, Big East and Atlantic Coast Conference over the past 12 seasons.

Hardy replaces G.G. Smith, who stepped down after failing to finish .500 or better in any of his five seasons.

Hardy spent the past two seasons on the staff at Georgia Tech. Before that, he was an assistant coach for four seasons at Georgetown University.
