Liberty 74, Hampton 65

Jesse Sanders scored a game-high 22 points and teammate John

Caleb Sanders added 14 as Liberty earned a 74-65 victory over

Hampton Saturday night in a nonconference game.

The Flames (4-8) opened up a 10-point lead midway through the

first half on a jumper by Jesse Sanders, who hit a pair of

3-pointers on the night. John Caleb Sanders also sank two 3-point

baskets as Liberty led 34-27 at halftime.

The Flames still led by 10 points midway through the second half

and a basket by Antwan Burrus keeping them in front 53-43. Hampton

(4-7) closed within 68-60 but Liberty closed out the game


David Bruce led Hampton with 20 points and just missed a

double-double with nine rebounds. Mike Tuitt came off the bench to

score 14 points, but that couldn’t prevent Hampton’s third straight


For Liberty, Tavares Speaks and Burrus each added 12.
