Liberty 71, William &amp, Mary 62

Evan Gordon scored 19 points and John Brown had a double-double

as Liberty defeated William & Mary 71-62 on Saturday night.

The Tribe (4-6) has been holding opponents to 36.4 percent

shooting over their last six games and continued to do so against

the Flames, limiting them to 37.9 percent in the first half (11 of

29).

Liberty (7-5), which trailed 33-27 at halftime, then shot 57.9

percent in the second half, outscoring William & Mary

44-29.

Trailing 33-27, Liberty went on a 13-6 run to lead 40-39 on

Gordon’s layup with 14:12 to go. William & Mary regained the

lead by one 51 seconds later but Brown’s jumper put the Flames up

for good, 42-41, with 13:12 left.

Brown finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Quinn McDowell and Matt Rum scored 15 points each for the Tribe,

who went 1 of 12 from 3 (8.3 percent) in the second half hitting 7

of 14 in the first.
