Houston wins 20th straight at home before opening new arena

HOUSTON (AP) — Corey Davis Jr. scored 23 points, Armoni Brooks grabbed 12 rebounds and Houston beat Texas Rio Grande Valley 58-53 on Wednesday night.

It was Houston's final home game at Texas Southern's H&PE Arena before opening the new Fertitta Center on Saturday with a sold-out game against No. 18 Oregon.

The Cougars played at Texas Southern's gym for the entire 2017-18 season, reeling off 20 straight home wins. The streak is tied for the second-longest active home streak in the nation.

Brison Gresham added 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for Houston (5-0).

Jordan Jackson had 12 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks for UT Rio Grande Valley (5-4). The Vaqueros shot just 34 percent, including 3 of 24 from 3-point range.
