Georgia Tech 52, Charleston Southern 39

Daniel Miller blocked seven shots in his first game and Georgia

Tech overcame poor shooting to defeat Charleston Southern 52-39 in

the season opener for both teams on Friday night.

Mfon Udofia had 12 points and Brian Oliver and Glen Rice Jr.

each scored 10 for the Yellow Jackets, who held the Buccaneers to

26.9 shooting and forced 29 turnovers.

Georgia Tech, which shot 28.8 percent from the floor, was 3 for

22 on 3-point attempts. Charleston Southern was 4 for 24 from

behind the arc.

Johathan Brooks scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds for

Charleston Southern, which fell behind by 11-0 to start the game

and trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half.

Miller, a 6-foot-10 redshirt freshman, had five points, six

rebounds and three steals. Georgia Tech was outrebounded 51-39.

Four of the five starters scored in the Yellow Jackets’ 11-0

opening run.
