SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Tahj Eaddy scored 21 of his career-high 30 points in the first half to help Santa Clara open West Coast Conference play with a 68-56 win over San Diego on Thursday night.

The Broncos (9-6) never trailed and pulled away with 13 straight points to a 25-5 lead in the first half. Eaddy scored 11 points during that run and Santa Clara led 35-18 at halftime.

The Toreros (11-5) scored the first nine points of the second half to cut the deficit to eight, but that was as close as they would get until a rally got them within 62-56 in the final two minutes.

After San Diego's burst to start the second half, Santa Clara had two 7-0 runs to help build their lead back to 60-41 and held on after starters Trey Wertz and Josip Vrankic fouled out.
