Comeback Completed By Syracuse Basketball Team, Thanks To Tyus Battle

The Syracuse basketball team completed their comeback and continued their five game winning streak. Here’s all the reaction from the game last night.

The Syracuse Orange captured their second road win of the season, thanks to a strong second half led by Taurean Thompson, and a buzzer-beating three by Tyus Battle to give Syracuse a 82-81 lead as time expired.

It seems as if Syracuse needs to be trailing by double digits in order to win. After Syracuse allowed Clemson to take an early 20-8 lead, they came to life. The Orange went into halftime trailing by just two points (40-38) thanks to four threes from Andrew White, and smart team basketball from Tyler Lydon, who finished the contest with 17 points and 9 boards.

As soon as the second half began, Taurean Thompson took over. In wake of multiple Clemson three balls, Thompson dominated in the paint, and finished the contest with 14 points, all of which were scored in the second-half.

Syracuse was victimized by the three-pointer throughout the second half, but were not going to let it get the best of them. Late in the second half, John Gillon, clutch as always, cut the lead to just two after hitting a three and earning two points from the free throw line.

Andrew White was having a rough second half, until he hit a three late to put Syracuse in the lead.

This three, that gave ‘Cuse their first lead since the 12 minute mark of the second half, quickly was forgotten about when Clemson responded with a three of their own on the ensuing possession.

After Lydon hit two clutch free throws late in the game to make up for his turnover, Donte Grantham hit a contested jumper from the free throw line, an area that Clemson took advantage of all night.

While on the next possession, Syracuse found a wide open Tyus Battle in the corner, and the kid made no mistake. Battle swished the three at the buzzer and was quickly mobbed by his teammates, and Jim Boeheim ran down the sideline celebrating the victory.

While Syracuse won this contest 82-81, and Joe Lunardi should probably start appreciating the run Syracuse is on, and give them a little love in his “Bracketology”.

Syracuse will play the Pittsburgh this Saturday. Hopefully they can replicate their performance against the Panthers from earlier this year.
