Cent. Connecticut St. 74, Niagara 71

Ken Horton scored 25 points and hauled in 10 rebounds as Central

Connecticut State ended a four-game losing streak Sunday with a

74-71 victory over Niagara.

Robby Ptacek added 23 points and Shemik Thompson had 10 points

and 10 assists for the Blue Devils (5-5).

Anthony Nelson’s 24 points led Niagara (3-8), which concluded an

eight-game road trip – its longest since the 1940-41 season – with

two wins.

The game turned on an 11-0 run in the second half, just after

Eric Williams gave Niagara a 49-44 lead on a layup with 15:44 left.

The Purple Eagles then missed six consecutive shots, committed four

turnovers and went from being pursued to giving pursuit, down 55-49

with 11:19 left.

Niagara tied it at 65 on Nelson’s layup with 3:38 left. But

Horton answered with a layup 12 seconds later, and the Blue Devils

led for good, even surviving Ptacek fouling out with 5:26 left.
