Big second half carries Canisius over Monmouth 94-79 (Jan 14, 2018)

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Jermaine Crumpton scored 23 points, Isaiah Reese added 22 and the pair led a big second-half in a 94-79 Canisius victory over Monmouth on Sunday that kept the Golden Griffins tied atop the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Trailing 45-43 at halftime, Reese scored 14 points and Crumpton 12 in the second half as the Griffins outscored the Hawks 51-34. Takal Molson finished with 18 points, Jibreel Faulkner 12 and Malik Johnson 10 for Canisius (11-8, 5-1), which is tied with Iona for first. Four Griffins had three 3-pointers each with Canisius going 14 of 30 from the arc.

Monmouth led by as many as 13 points in the first half but the Griffins used an 11-6 run to close within two at the break. Austin Tilghman scored 22 points, Louie Pillari had four 3-pointers and 18 points and Diago Quinn 15 points for the Hawks (5-12, 1-4).

The teams combined 53 fouls and 72 free throws.
