BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Trae Bell-Haynes scored 20 points and Payton Henson and Ernie Duncan each scored 12 and Vermont beat Stony Brook 73-62 on Saturday.

Vermont (13-5, 3-0 American East) shot 56 percent from the field (23 of 41), and Bell-Haynes missed the most shot attempts (6 for 10) among the nine Catamounts who shot at least once. However, Vermont missed 15 free throws (17 for 32) and was outrebounded 33-27.

Junior Saintel's back-to-back jumper and layup brought Stony Brook (7-11, 2-2) within 50-43 with 14:01 left, which marked the only time its deficit was less than double figures in the second half. Henson replied with a jumper, Duncan and Bell-Haynes made consecutive 3s and the Catamounts were never threatened.

Cam Ward's 4-point play before halftime knotted the score at 22, Duncan made 1 of 2 foul shots then followed with a 3 and Vermont never trailed again.
