Akron 69, W. Michigan 66

Quincy Diggs scored six of his 10 points in overtime, but it was

Zeke Marshall’s two free throws with 37 seconds left in the extra

session that gave Akron a 69-66 victory over Western Michigan on

Wednesday night.

Marshall, who scored 14 points, also made a jumper with 23

seconds left in regulation, giving the Zips (17-7, 9-1

Mid-American) a 59-58 lead and capping a 6-0 run. With 6 seconds

left, Flenard Whitfield made one of two foul shots for the Broncos

(10-14, 4-6) to force overtime.

After Marshall’s free throws in overtime, the Broncos’ Mike

Douglas, who had 15 points, missed a game-tying jumper with 2
