Acquaah scores 25, California Baptist edges Southern 79-76

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Milan Acquaah had 25 points and eight rebounds, De'jon Davis added 16 points and nine boards and California Baptist beat Southern 79-76 on Wednesday.

Davis had dunks on back-to-back possessions to give California Baptist a 75-67 lead with 1:28 remaining, but those were the final field goals of the game for the Lancers. Aaron Ray answered the second dunk with a 3-point play to start a 7-0 run to pull to 75-74 with 45 seconds left.

Acquaah and Jordan Heading combined for four free throws on California Baptist's next two possessions and Richard Lee was off on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

California Baptist (7-5) shot 61 percent from the field and made 18 of 23 free throws in its fourth Division I road game.

Ray scored a career-high 21 points for the Jaguars (1-11), who have lost five straight games. Lee added 18 points and Eddie Reese had 10 for Southern, which plays at Marquette (9-2) on Friday.
