Chooses St. John's Smith announced via his personal Twitter account Friday that he is transferring to St. John's.

Impact The standout guard is officially moving on from Vermont after having entered the transfer portal March 11. Smith earned all-America East honors twice during his four years at Vermont, as a junior and a senior, and he averaged 13.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 three-pointers, 1.6 assists and 0.6 steals in 29.8 minutes per game over his 14 appearances as a senior in 2020-21. As a grad transfer, Smith will be eligible to compete immediately at St. John's.

Leaving UVM as graduate transfer Smith placed his name in the transfer portal Thursday and is expected to leave Vermont as a graduate transfer, VerbalCommits.com reports.

Impact Smith should have a number of Division I programs vying for his services on the heels of a productive four-year career with the Catamounts. He was a full-time starter for his final three seasons at Vermont, averaging 13.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 three-pointers, 1.6 assists and 0.6 steals in 29.8 minutes per game over his 14 appearances as a senior in 2020-21. The two-time all-America East selection will be able to compete immediately at his next school in 2021-22.

Leads Catamounts with 27 Smith had a team-high 27 points (7-13 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 8-9 FT) to go along with seven rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes Sunday against NJIT.

Impact Smith was one of many players that took advantage of the opportunity to test his NBA Draft stock while maintaining his eligibility this past spring. Fortunately for Vermont, Smith elected to return to school, and the senior guard has improved both his scoring (18.3 ppg) and rebounding (4.7 rpg) averages through three games. He and junior forward Ryan Davis will form a dynamic 1-2 punch for a Catamounts team with NCAA Tournament aspirations.
