Syracuse sophomore center Jesse Edwards helps fill big void

Despite the lack of experience at center after an injury took starter Bourama Sidibe out of the lineup in the first game of the season and big effects from COVID-19, Syracuse has s...

Jim Boeheim: Bourama Sidibe won’t be back any time soon, Marek Dolezaj needs to shoot more The Syracuse coach speaks each week on his TK-99 radio show.

Remains out indefinitely Sidibe (knee) has no timeline for a return, Matthew Gutierrez of The Athletic reports.
Impact Sidibe continues to remain sidelined by a knee injury suffered during the first game of the season against Bryant on Nov. 27. Without any estimate for his return, the Orangemen's center troubles appear as though they'll continue. Head coach Jim Boeheim said Tuesday that John Bol Ajak is too small to play the position, and Frank Anselem is still out due to COVID-19 protocols. Jesse Edwards has reportedly shown progress in practice, so he could be called upon to fill the void eventually, but the team appears stuck playing small ball until it overcomes its problems in the frontcourt.

Out Tuesday Sidibe (knee) won't play in Tuesday's contest against North Carolina, Matt Park reports.
Impact Though coach Jim Boeheim was hopeful that Sidibe would be able to return for Tuesday's matchup, that simply won't be the case, as Sidibe was absent from warmups. It'll be the ninth straight contest that the senior will miss. His next chance to take the floor will be Saturday against Pittsburgh.

Jim Boeheim ‘hopeful’ Bourama Sidibe will be able to play vs. North Carolina Syracuse center Bourama Sidibe hasn't played since tearing the meniscus in his knee in the season-opener against Bryant on Nov. 27.

Could play Tuesday Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim said he's "hopeful" Sidibe (knee) will be available to play Tuesday against North Carolina, Mike Waters of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.
Impact After tearing his meniscus in the Nov. 27 season-opening win over Bryant, Sidibe required a minor surgery and has been sidelined ever since. Syracuse was optimistic that Sidibe might be ready to return to action Jan. 6, but he's since proceeded to sit out the team's subsequent two games, extending his streak of absences to eight games. The big man at least seems to have avoided a setback in the recovery process, though he'll still need to increase his activity in practice to have a shot at suiting up in Chapel Hill. Even if active for that contest, Sidibe likely won't be in store for anything more than a minor rotation role.

Absent from warmups Sidibe (knee) hasn't been spotted in warmups prior to Saturday's game versus Georgetown, Mike Waters of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.
Impact Sidibe suffered a setback with his surgically repaired knee at some point prior to Wednesday's game, so it isn't exactly surprising that he's headed for another absence Saturday. The senior has managed to log just four minutes in the opener before going down and hasn't played since.

Will not dress due to setback Sidibe (knee) will not play in Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh, Stephen Bailey of 247sports.com reports.
Impact Sidibe apparently suffered a setback in the knee that had surgery. It's not clear how long that will keep him out for, but that is obviously concerning news. A return on Saturday against Georgetown seems very up in the air now.
JANUARY 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not warming up Sidibe (knee) is not warming up ahead of Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh, Stephen Bailey of 247sports.com reports.
Impact Sidibe was a game-time call due to a torn meniscus that he has been rehabbing from, but it's not looking like he will be able to return on Wednesday. Sidibe has returned to practice and should have a better chance to go on Saturday against Georgetown.

JANUARY 6, 2021 • THEATHLETIC.COM
Game-time call Wednesday Sidibe (knee) is a game-time decision for Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact The big man returned to practice Tuesday after a long layoff following a meniscus injury. There's a chance that Sidibe plays Wednesday, but that won't be determined until the teams hit the floor for warmups.

Syracuse returning after weeks-long, virus-related hiatus

Barring another last-minute change, Syracuse will return to the basketball court on Wednesday night after a COVID-19 pause that lasted nearly three weeks
JANUARY 6, 2021
Returns to practice Sidibe (knee) returned to practice on Sunday, Mike Waters of Syracuse.com reports.
Impact Sidibe has been out the past month due to a torn meniscus in his right knee. He had been doing things individually on the side in the weeks prior as well. It's not clear yet if he will be able to suit up on Wednesday against Pittsburgh. Sidibe should be a force in the middle whenever he is able to return to game action.

Syracuse C Bourama Sidibe has torn meniscus, needs surgery

Syracuse senior center Bourama Sidibe will undergo surgery after suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee during the Orange's season-opening win against Bryant
NOVEMBER 30, 2020
SU center Bourama Sidibe suffers torn meniscus; to miss 4 weeks Syracuse center Bourama Sidibe injured his knee in the Orange's season-opener against Bryant on Friday.
NOVEMBER 30, 2020 • SYRACUSE.COM
Suffers torn meniscus Sidibe suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday and miss about four weeks, Adam Zagoria of The New York Times reports.
Impact Sidibe suffered the injury in last Friday's win over Bryant. The 6-10 center is likely to miss all of December as he tries to rehab after meniscus surgery. It's obviously not ideal news, but it could have been much worse for Sidibe who should be able to return sometime in conference play. John Bol Ajak and Quincy Guerrier should receive more minutes in the frontcourt during Sidibe's absence.
NOVEMBER 30, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Set for additional testing Sidibe will undergo an MRI on Friday to determine the extent of a leg injury that he suffered in Friday's win over Bryant, Stephen Bailey of 247Sports reports.
Impact Syracuse squeaked out an 85-84 win sans Sidibe. The senior center started every game for Syracuse last season and posted 6.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, and it'd be a major loss for the backcourt if he's forced to miss any time. John Bol Ajak appears to be the next man up to replace Sidibe if the MRI reveals a long-term injury.
NOVEMBER 27, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Injures leg Friday Sidibe left Friday's game against Bryant with a left leg injury, Pete Moore of Syracuse's official site reports.
Impact Sidibe will be evaluated during halftime to determine the extent of his injury and see if he can return for the second half. The senior posted two points and a rebound before exiting. John Bol Ajak and Jesse Edwards should see more playing time if Sidibe can't return.
