Hornets’ Walker named East Player of the Week
In helping the Hornets extend their winning streak to five straight, Kemba Walker was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the NBA announced Monday.
The third-year point guard averaged 30.3 points per game in four games — victories over the Celtics, Pelicans, Raptors and Knicks — along with 5.8 assists, 4.5 assists, 1.3 steals and just 1.3 turnovers. He also shot 50 percent (44 of 88) in that span, including 36.4 percent on 3-pointers (8 of 22).
The Warriors’ Klay Thompson took the honors for the Western Conference.
On the season, Walker is scoring 18.9 per game with 5.4 assists and four rebounds for Charlotte, which at 15-24 sits two games out of eighth in the conference.
The Hornets play next on Wednesday as they host the Spurs.
