Boston College dealing with attendance issues versus Virginia Tech

The city of Boston is enjoying yet another sports high as the Red Sox celebrated their 2013 World Series title on Saturday afternoon. As one young Boston fan pointed out, in his 11 years of life he’s enjoyed eight separate Boston-centric sports total parades (three Red Sox; three Patriots, one Celtics; one Bruins).

So perhaps many Boston College fans were doubling as Red Sox fans and simply were unable to be in two places at once. Or, maybe this is just the result of being a 3-4 — now 4-4 — Boston College team, a program averaging just around 35,000 fans per game this season. Here’s a visual of what that looked like against Virginia Tech:

Of course, it might help matters if the fans that were in attendance could, you know, stay awake for the high-stakes action of an Atlantic-versus-Coastal matchup in the ACC. But loyal Eagles fans aren’t even getting that right today:

Thank goodness the FSU-Miami game is on tap to save the ACC’s Saturday bacon. (Setting aside the fact that the Seminoles are a 22-point favorite.)

For what it’s worth, Boston College went on to win the game, 34-27.
