Fight body bans Romanian, Thai officials

The International Boxing Association has suspended Romania’s

federation and senior Thailand officials for breaking disciplinary

rules, but allowed the two countries’ fighters to continue

competing.

The governing body, known as AIBA, says it barred Romania from

international amateur boxing for two years because suspended leader

Rudel Obreja continued in office.

AIBA says Thai federation president Taweep Jantararoj is

suspended from all duties for two years. Other Thai officials got

one-year bans from international boxing.

AIBA says suspensions don’t apply to athletes, coaches, referees

and judges.

Romania and Thailand are among 13 members which challenged AIBA

president Wu Ching-kuo before his re-election last year.
