Ishida defends interim WBA title

Nobuhiro Ishida of Japan has retained his WBA interim super

welterweight title by defeating Oney Valdez of Colombia by

unanimous decision.

Ishida sent Valdez to the canvas Tuesday with a right to the

head in the 10th round in Osaka. The judges scored the bout

117-110, 119-108 and 118-109 in favor of Ishida.

Ishida improved to 22-5 with seven knockouts and two draws.

At 34 years, 4 months, Ishida became the second-oldest Japanese

boxer to defend a world title behind former WBC flyweight champion

Daisuke Naito.
