With 35 games on the docket for this year’s college bowl slate, the standards for reaching the postseason are lower than ever. But while the games themselves edge toward mediocrity, the names themselves have plunged to depths of embarrassment.
That, however, is not new; ever since bowl games sought sponsorship, fans everywhere have been subject to some hilariously awful nomenclature for their schools’ postseason tilts.
So, in honor of this year’s bowl season officially getting underway, here’s a look at the 10 worst bowl names of all time.
10. TicketCity Bowl
College football’s newest bowl wins the prize for most shameless profiteering. The fact that it’s played in the Cotton Bowl while the actual Cotton Bowl game now resides in the Jerry Dome only adds salt to the wound.
9. Domino’s Pizza Copper Bowl
When marketing, you should only associate your brand with positive connotations.
Apparently the good people at Domino’s did not feel like this was a rule they should follow.
The last time anyone checked, pizza plus copper most likely equals dysentery and a mild case of organ failure.

New York, arguably more than any major city, loves its pro baseball.
New York, inarguably more than any major city, could care less about college football.
