Utah claims first Pac-12 win at Arizona’s expense

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — T.J. Bennett hit Utah’s first home run in 27 games, a grand slam in the eighth inning, to lift the Utes to a 7-3 Pac-12 baseball victory over struggling Arizona.

Arizona starter James Farris (4-3) took a 3-2 lead into the eighth inning before tiring. Bennett’s blast came on an 0-2 pitch after the Wildcats had intentionally walked Max Schuman.

The victory was the first for Utah (10-17, 1-9) in conference play. Arizona fell to 12-19 and 2-8.

The Wildcats had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh on Michael Hoard’s first career home run. Scott Kingery was 2 for 3 with a walk, and Trent Gilbert and Bobby Dalbec each drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
