Rockets’ Howard reportedly hears boos, ‘Kobe’ chants in Philippines

Dwight Howard will likely hear plenty of jeers from fans when on the road in his first year with the Rockets, especially in his two former stomping grounds of Los Angeles and Orlando.

But apparently NBA fans in the Philippines are even upset that Howard spurred the Lakers in the offseason to play for the Rockets.

During Houston’s preseason game against the Pacers in Manila, the first NBA game played in the Philippines, Howard was on the receiving end of some boos and chants of “Kobe! Kobe!” from the crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena according to

Howard didn’t fare particularly well on the court either during the Rockets’ 116-96 win over Indiana, making just 3-of-9 shots from the field facing off against the Pacers’ bigger center Roy Hibbert.

The night wasn’t completely terrible for Howard, the crowd did give him a big cheer, albeit a likely sarcastic one, in the third quarter after he made a free throw.

At least the NBA’s Filipino fans are well rounded in their basketball knowledge.
