Cowboys —

Wow!  Who would of thunk it two weeks ago?  The Cowboys were left for dead…out of the playoffs… already practicing the excuses.  Then, they beat the best the NFC has to offer at their place and shut-out the Redskins for just the third time in the rivalry, sweeping the Skins for the first time in 5 years.  The Cowboys are in the playoffs and now have a chance to play for the division title, which could mean a home playoff game.  So, it truely can be a “December to Remember,” but the next thing the ‘Boys and Wade need to take care of is getting that first playoff win in like g-zillion years…

Eagles —-

Explain to me how Michael Vick is elected by his team to win the Ed Block Courage Award?  What’s he done that’s courageous?  I guess he courageously walked out of jail and took a million dollar pay-check to practice and be a novelty in the offense for a game against his former team.  He threw a TD and ran for one against Atlanta, isn’t that award for people like Ravens’ safety Dawan Landry who was paralyzed last year and came back this year for four ints and a touchdown?  Is Vick really doing anything for dogs?  Lot of talk when he came out of jail, but we haven’t seen it.  Maybe he was courageous to play through the boos and opposing stadiums playing “Who Let the Dogs Out?”…not sure if either has really happened…

Urban Meyer —-

So, he retires…then un-retires…before his press conference on Sunday for the Sugar Bowl.  Why not just make up your mind before that press conference?  I get the health issues and wanting to spend more time with the family.  We’ve heard, allegedly, heart issues, non-cancerous cyst in the brain…stress can cause alot of things.  Maybe it’s a broken heart with Tim Tebow graduating.  What Urban has done in Gainesville is remarkable…two National Titles in five years…SEC Championships…crazy good in the best conference in college football!

But, imagine if he does step away at the age of 45…what about the shock waves through football?  You could have Bob Stoops returning to UF, he was the first choice by Fla A.D. Jeremy Foley the last time.  The Gators groomed Bob for the job when he was the defensive coordinator, but he left for OU a year earlier than Steve Spurrier left, and Bob’s wife loves Florida.  Pink Caddy’s work well there…and I should know…I have a family member with one!  Is the timing good to leave OU after his first down year?  If Bob was to leave OU, then you could speculate Arizona’s Mike Stoops to Norman…or Mike Leach, who’s had the most success against OU in the Big 12 (he’s a former OU assistant).  Then, Gary Patterson to Tech…Dennis Franchione or June Jones to TCU…Cedar Hill’s Joey McGuire to SMU…this is based on nothing, just to get a rise out of you… seeing if you’re still reading…

But, imagine the dominos…word has it that University of Houston’s Kevin Sumlin has a relationship with Foley.  The Gators could also fight the Redskins for Mike Shanahan, who was second choice after Bob Stoops the last time.  Also, Jon Gruden, who’s been named in the past.  Oh…and what about the old Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier?  The guy who thought Jevan Snead was first team SEC QB…not Tebow.  I doubt Steve would say “yes” to going back!  Spurrier’s feelings were hurt the last time…Foley wanted him to go through the interview process…Steve wanted no part.  Why?  He only won a Heisman as a player…and took them to the ’96 National Championship….but, Steve does like golf….and Florida is right up there with Texas for golf courses.  Terrible golf swing, but great results…

Notre Dame —-

Hey, remember the bit when Brian Kelly left Cincinnati high-n-dry for his dream football job at South Bend, IN?  His Bearcats were awfully upset about it and he thanked his players for getting him the job at Notre Dame.  But, get this, recently Kelly said he would of coached Cincinnati in the BCS Title game if Texas would of lost the Big 12 Championship.  So, I guess it is all about Kelly.  Why not tell the Irish to chill and coach the greatest season in Cincy history at the Sugar Bowl?  I know there’s no good way to leave, but Urban Meyer did it before going to Florida…

NBA on Xmas—-

Is the NBA trying to make Christmas day like New Year’s Day with the Bowls?  The games never end and they made a really big deal about the L.A. Clippers playing on X-mas for the first time.  Is it really that special when half the league plays on the day?  And why are you making the Knicks green to go with the Miami Heat’s red?  It’s not much of a Christmas gift to watch the Knicks play basketball.  Mavs in the green would of been a nice touch!  ESPN/ABC’s coverage of the day was interesting.  Every time they came to Magic Johnson, he couldn’t wait to tell you how great the Lakers/Cavs game was going to be…and actually, it was a no-contest.  How ’bout hyping the game you’re at halftime of?  The so-called world wide leader told alot of heart-warming Christmas stories…we didn’t see that coming.  You know, like the homeless story on Thanksgiving…the first baby on New Year’s…where was some of the real stuff going on in the league?  Like Gibert Arenas bringing his firearms to work and putting them in his locker because he wanted to keep them away from his growing kids at home.  Nothing says “Happy Holidays” like guns in your desk at work.  Imagine if you and I did that?  Maybe Washington should change their name back to Bullets…at least the Wizards have lockerroom security with Agent Zero.  The Nike Ad with the Lebron & Kobe puppets dunking on raindeer rocked…but, do we always need a theme song for everything that goes on in sports these days?  T
he Mariah Carey song was cute the first 20 times I saw it…

Did you know —-

The Dallas Cowboys Stadium basketball Floor will be used two times and then schools will fight over it, possibly going to the highest bidder.  Once for the Texas/Carolina game, then re-painted for the NBA All-Star Game.  Seems like they could cut it up and make keep-sakes for the fans, a lot like the urinals at Texas Stadium…a few of them were stolen before auctioned… unfortunately, police had nothing to GO ON !
